JATI

Just a tool.But improved.

JATI is a native terminal for macOS. Edit a command like text before you run it, talk to an AI assistant in the same tab, and work on servers over SSH without losing your history.

Free. Version 0.5.1, 6.2 MB. Requires macOS 27 and a Mac with Apple silicon.

A recreation of JATI's real interface. The app itself is in Brazilian Portuguese.

Edit before you run.

The bottom of the window is a native macOS text editor, not a shell line. Select with the mouse or keyboard, move the cursor, undo, paste, and write across several lines. Nothing runs until you say so.

History suggests the rest of the command as you type, favoring the same profile, the same host, and the same folder.*

↵
runs the command
⇧↵
adds a new line
Tab
accepts the history suggestion
⌥↑
goes back in history
⌃C
interrupts the process

*Shell completion of paths and commands with Tab isn't part of this version yet.

And it's still a terminal.

Every tab keeps its own session. Switching tabs doesn't restart the shell or lose what you were typing.

When an interactive program takes over, like Claude Code, Codex, vim, or less, keystrokes go straight to it, and the bar below tells you input belongs to the terminal.

⌘T
opens a new tab
⇧⌘]
goes to the next tab
⌘F
searches the output
⌘+
makes the font bigger, from 10 to 28 pt
  • The Tools menu starts Claude Code or Codex in the tab.
  • Light or dark appearance, switched from the window's toolbar.

An assistant that never runs anything on its own.

Switch from Terminal to Assistant in the same place, with separate drafts. Use OpenAI or Anthropic with your own API key, or sign in with your ChatGPT account through the Codex CLI installed on your Mac.

Answers stream in, accept pasted images, and can become a draft in the terminal. Reviewing and running it stays with you.*

  • Send only the selected part of the terminal, along with the host and folder.
  • Up to 10 images per message.
  • API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain.

*Sign-in, available models, and cost depend on your account with each provider.

Servers, with the same comfort.

Create a profile for each project or VPS. In a regular SSH session, integrate the remote shell (bash or zsh) from the Tools menu: the hooks live only in that session, and no file on the server changes.

From then on, the editor, history, and suggestions work there too, and the sidebar shows the server's files.*

⇧⌘E
shows the session's files
  • History keeps your Mac apart from each server.
  • Insert a file's path into the command. Local files can also go to the assistant.

*The host name groups the history. Two servers with the same name share that group within a profile.

The details that were missing.

This is where the “but improved” lives.

  • Each tab's drafts come back when you reopen the app.
  • Pasting a file inserts its quoted path. Pasting an image attaches it to the assistant.
  • Images you haven't sent stay in memory only.
  • Closing a tab asks first, so a draft never disappears without warning.
  • Closing Settings with changes offers to save, discard, or keep editing.
  • Middle-click closes a tab too.
  • The scrollbar follows macOS and picks its color from the terminal background.
  • Updates itself through Sparkle: every version is signed, checked every 6 hours, and installed when you quit the app.
